<strong>PJ's Birthday Party at Vermilion In Aid of People In Need</strong><br>

A recent survey carried out by a respected university abroad found that those born in the month of May happen to be amongst the luckiest and most successful souls on the Zodiac chart.  David Beckham, Mary Robinson and Mr T. were all May babies (an eclectic bunch, I know), and so was I!  Could it have something to do with the fact that we were born during the sunniest and warmest time of the year? Well, whatever the reason I was certainly lucky on my birthday this year as a group of my nearest and dearest chose to honour me with their presence at a special birthday celebration at the wonderful Vermilion restaurant in Terenure. In light of the fact that my birth date happened to coincide with this year's People In Need Telethon (May 21st), I decided that instead of gifts, I would like those in attendance to bring along a donation for People in Need.  After all, as Johnny Logan might say: what's another year? And they certainly did!  All told, we'd raised close to €1,000 before the candles had ever been lit on the cake. Among those to partake in the evening's festivities were my beautiful sister Loretta, cousin Richie Corcoran (who was giving me a serious run for my Telethon money in the popularity stakes), gorgeous clarinettist Ruth Hickey (who'd been up since four o'clock that morning), the ever-glamorous Cindy Cafolla (who's got a big hear to boot), Richard Kavanagh (chief orchestrator of a great party), Rachel Sarah Murphy (who dashed straight over from RTE after her interview with Gay Byrne), the stunning Gail Kaneswarren (who even arrived before me), Justin Parr (who kept the ladies at the far end of the table entertained), Caitriona Hanly and Triona McCarthy (who both raised the style stakes considerably), Valerie McDonagh (who stayed with me to party 'till the wee small hours), Tamara Gervasoni (who had also been working on Telethon earlier in the day), Dan Buckley (whose sense of adventure I greatly admire) and numerous others.<br>

My treasured friend Elke Pascoe, who also organised my party in Renards two years ago, swung into action for this one and her recommendation of the funky Vermilion restaurant really won out with everyone. Favouring Indian fusion cuisine, Vermilion is located in the heart of Terenure village, just over the Terenure Inn. Regarded as the best ethnic restaurant in Dublin today, its spacious and luxurious surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for an enjoyable evening out - and this one was no exception.<br><br>

Indeed, the culinary delights on offer came from every region of India, using the finest quality ingredients to provide an exceptional and imaginative feast. Opened in December 2001, to a flurry of outstanding reviews, the restaurant continues to be one of the most popular eateries in the capital. And now they're gearing up for the Vermilion Indian Summer Festival, which commences on June 29th. It's a summer long festival of fantastic Indian fusion - what more could you possibly ask for? They've also just recently launched Vermilion@Home - a take out service offering fusion fans the opportunity to experience quality Indian cuisine in the comfort of their own home. And no, we didn't ask for doggy bags! Established by husband and wife team Jerry and Emer Kochanski, the place is a hive of activity at weekends and I'm particularly grateful to them for making so much room for us on a Friday night! It also happens to be a very comfortable place in which to dine, hence the reason we were still there long after midnight. Following dinner, it was off to Spy (just for the one, you understand!), before hitting Renards (as you do!) … and then Lillies (which was probably a mistake, considering my week-long hangover afterwards!)  Anyway, if I was to do it all again I wouldn't change a thing. Oh, did I forget to mention, I'm 32!
